Cairns and The Great Barrier Reef

Cairns is a small town in the northern part of Queensland. It is famous for its beaches and relaxed way of life. Most of the boats and trips to the Great Barrier Reef depart from here. Obviously we didn't come here only to have a beer with the ozzis (which we did right on the first evening) but to go on a diving trip to explore the greatness of its legendary diving sites. Asking around we got a good deal for a four day trip on Taka, one of the best boats for divers which brings you way up to the northern part of the Great Barrier Reef. If the diving in the Philippines had been great, diving the GBR was even better: huge potato fish, stone fish, sea snakes, lion fish, abnormal huge turtles and sharks which made us forget about anything we had seen before. This is definitely one of the best diving sites in the world! They should have called it the Awesome Barrier Reef ;-)...
