Srinagar-Jammu-Amritsar

With a „Taxi Jeep“ we drove for 8 hours from Srinagar to Jammu. In Jammu we took the train to Amritsar which takes again around 5 hours. The immense military presence on our way to Jammu showed pretty clearly that the conflict between Pakistan and India is far from being resolved. In the early morning we arrived in Amritsar. Amritsar is the saint city of the Sikhs and every Sikh tries to visit the „Golden Temple“ (the spiritual center of Sikhism) al least once in his/ her life. In the 20th century Amritsar was marked by massacres. The first in 1919 by British troups and the second in 1984 initiated by former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
