From Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales

No doubt, the best way to travel south to Tierra del Fuego on Chile's western Patagonian coast and through its amazing fjords is by boat. One option is to take a luxurious cruise ship, another much more charming way is to make this four day trip on the Navimag (a ferry and cargo vessel) which is vital to this remote region of the world because for some locals it is the only way to reach and transport vehicles and goods of all kind. Starting in Puerto Montt, our maritime journey took us along some of the most beautiful landscapes in Chile with astonishing views of fjords and glaciers which may be best comparable to its equivalents in Scandinavia or New Zealand. At some points of the trip the fjord narrowed down to as little as 80 meters width with huge mountain and rock formations on both sides of the channel. This beautiful four day ride took us 1450 km south from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales which was our final destination in Chile. Although usually this region of the world is known for notorious rain and hefty storms we were lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic weather almost constantly which made our journey extremely pleasant and a unforgettable experience.
